Red Cross Reported to Have Joined the Mainsleazers
Plenty of evidence in the archives of samples and discussion at Click the link just below to see for yourself. You will find that some of the hits have to do with people pretending to be the Red Cross to defraud. Look howver for the ones on the Red Cross trying to sell calendars, for example. That on appears to be real spam from the real Red Cross.
It appears the Red Cross has gone over to the dark side of Internet abuse.

American Red Cross Reported Spamming. April 8, 2004.
Women of the Red Cross calendar 2005. Has it really come to this?
[Ed. Note: Following is text of a post made by someone to the usenet newsgroup The link below goes to the original post archived at]

Advert for the "Women of the Red Cross calendar 2005", sent to the
Message-ID of a posting I made to news:alt.folklore.urban in September
2000, and which has made its way onto "Millions" CDs.

The mail was clearly sent from an IP address owned by the US Red Cross
(they seem to have their own netblock, and peer with at least two
backbone providers).
